My own workshops, which are held in the studio are an opportunity for people to learn in a quiet, accepting space. I run Beginners Workshops for those who are brand new to creating and have perhaps received a sewing machine as a gift and are trepidatious about using it. I also offer Intermediate Workshops, where you can learn how to read a pattern, sew different hems, and make patterns fit you properly.
Textile Techniques is one of my favourite workshops. We often welcome A-Level or Degree level fashion students to explore, experiment and play. We use different materials, expensive and unusual threads, sequins and beads. We melt plastic, we use soldering irons and tools to embellish fabrics. It’s really an opportunity to lose yourself in the textiles.
Customising Techniques is a more fashion-based workshop looking at what’s current in fashion and deconstructing and making sense of it. I then show participants how they can make their own version quickly and easily. It’s about demystifying fashion and showing people how to apply these simple techniques to their own wardrobe.
