Beginners Sewing Class-starting to sew.
Once you learn to sew you have that skill forever, for the rest of your life. You open up your world to endless possibilities, clothes in shops look boring and home interiors stuff is dull. The best thing is, you know you can make better yourself and you have the skills to do so!
This class is good fun, relaxed and covers everything the enthusiastic novice needs. You will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread up and how to start to sew. We with then look at those simple problems which confound beginners such as knotted and jammed threads, how to sew in a straight line and what do all those buttons and dials mean? You’ll also get lots of information about where to buy equipment and materials plus good websites and blogs. There’s time to ask any questions that have been baffling you and we take the day nice and slowly, so there’s time to digest information and take notes . After lunch (don’t forget to bring your sandwiches) we will make a basic shopping bag using all your new found skills. You will leave the day a confident and enthusiastic sewer.
Following on from this class you are welcome to join the Stitch and Bitch group .
Sewing machines are supplied but if you prefer to work on your own please make sure it works.
These classes are held at;
The Stitch and Make Studio
7 Burns St
Refreshments included, but bring a packed lunch.
ABOUT MY CLASSES
Classes are held in my own studio in Northampton. The building itself is in the boot and shoe quarter and was built in 1883. It has housed many different businesses over the years but finally closed in 2006. I moved in in 2010 and following development from a very generous landlord we now have 18 artists spread across 12 studios. Behind our doors you will find Sign-writers, filmmakers, photographers, rubbers clothes makers and painters amongst others. We do have some on site parking in the yard on the side of the building and as long as residents do not park across the gates you can park in the yard.
THE STITCH AND MAKE STUDIO.
I’m very proud of my light filled studio, it’s a wonderful inspiring place to come for a class. We have big tables to cut out on,a comfy lounge area to sit and have tea, lots of books and magazines to read and most materials and equipment will be supplied for the classes. In the summer months you won’t want to go home!
Tea and biscuits will be offered to you on arrival and you will be welcome to poke around the bookshelves and investigate all the nooks and crannies (but no pilfering the fabric!)
