Weekend Bag.

Saturday October 14th

This class is packed to the gills with sewing, so please make sure you’re happy to undertake some hard core stitching.  Also, feel free to bring along an assortment of fabric oddments.  You could use tea towels, tablecloths, duvets or old curtains.  Any fabric which has an upholstery weight will perform well, but please don’t choose anything like your grannies sofa as it wont go through the machine.  (confused about fabrics???- bring them all and we’ll help you choose).  You will also need about 1m of fabric for lining and a chunky zip- anywhere between 20-24 ” will do. Don’t forget pom-poms, ric-rac or any other types of trimmings you fancy. We will have some trims you can purchase on the day or we have an excellent shop at the top of the street so you can buy from there.

You will be shown how to layout and cut your fabric and lining. You will have a worksheet and be shown how to stitch your bag together. We will have calico backings ready cut for you and this will save time. You will make up  separate bag components and be shown how to construct the bag and given a worksheet just in case you need to finish at home. There is time in the class to discuss fabric selections and decorative techniques.

Please feel free to bring your own machines if you would like to work on them but make sure they work first.

Tea and biscuits are provided constantly throughout the day, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.

Workshop cost £55.

Classes are held in my own studio in Northampton.  The building itself is in the boot and shoe quarter and was built in 1883.  It has housed many different businesses over the years but finally closed in 2006.  I moved in in 2010 and following development from a very generous landlord we now have 18 artists spread across 12 studios.  Behind our doors you will find Sign-writers, filmmakers, photographers, rubbers clothes makers and painters amongst others. We do have some on site parking in the yard on the side of the building and as long as residents do not park across the gates you can park in the yard.

I’m  very proud of my light filled studio, it’s a wonderful inspiring place to come for a class.  We have big tables to cut out on,a comfy lounge area to sit and have tea, lots of books and magazines to read and most materials and equipment will be supplied for the classes. In  the summer months you won’t want to go home!

Tea and biscuits will be offered to you on arrival and you will be welcome to poke around the bookshelves and investigate all the nooks and crannies (but no pilfering the fabric!)

Please note;  Classes take a lot of time to plan materials and equipment wise, tutors are very knowledgeable and are booked months ahead.  If you need to cancel your place please let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . Sometimes we have a waiting list in which case we will be able to transfer someone else into your empty space.  If YOU need to cancel up to 14 days before you will receive your deposit back.  However, If you cancel after 7 days before you will lose your refund, unless of course we have a waiting list for the class.

You can pay for your classes using the Paypal button even if you don’t have a Paypal account yourself.  You just need to have an email address.  It really is very easy.  If your a bit old-fashioned I still enjoy a cheque. If you would like to pay any other way, ring me- Abi on 07972862740.

We are always happy to devise classes for hen parties- such as fascinator or corsage workshops and also children’s parties. We’ve run fascinator and French Knicker making workshops for hen classes and sock monkey and bunting making classes for children.  The Stitch and Make Studio in Burns St is the Ideal location for large groups and we a comfy lounge area if you want to serve drinks, nibbles and food too.

If you aren’t sure on your experience or suitability of a class please ring for advice 07972862740.
